Chinese Longevity

It is commonly admitted among Westerner that Chinese people age well and can become incredibly old. A small Chinese elderly man with long moustaches was a popular representation of China until recently.
Is it due to the Chinese way of life ? The food ? The famous herbal medicine ? Is it even true ?
According to the United Nations, life expectancy in mainland China lies around 73 years, ranking 82th. Not that much. But Hong-Kong, ranks 2nd with 82.2 years. So there may be some truth in the legend...
